How to Make the Most of Your Trip to Little Havana

Get a taste of the Cuban and Latin culture at one of Florida’s most vibrant towns, Little Havana. Located in the heart of Miami, this historic neighborhood will give you a glimpse of Cuba with its art, history and of course, delicious food.

This place isn’t very big, but there is a lot to do. From exploring the streets of Calle Ocho to dancing your heart out at Ball and Chain, here’s how to make the most of your trip to Little Havana.

Explore the Walk of Fame on Calle Ocho

Hollywood, California isn’t the only place that honors celebrities. Located between 12th and 17th Avenue, Little Havana also has its own collection of stars embedded on the sidewalk called the Latin Walk of Fame. These pink stars represent the artists who have made a significant impact in the Latin community and culture. I even saw my favorite telenovela actress' star, Thalia!

Sip on some Cafesito or Cuban coffee

As a coffee drinker with a strong sweet tooth, I am forever in search for the tastiest caffeine beverage. So, if you’re like me, you’ll surely love the delicious Cuban coffee and chocolates offered at La Colada Gourmet.

Play dominoes with the locals at Domino Park

You can’t visit Little Havana and not stop by Maximo Gomez Park, also known as Domino Park. This place was named after a military soldier, who fought for Cuban independence in Spain back in the 19th century. At the park, you’ll find many locals playing an intense game of domino all while smoking a Cuban cigar. (Address: 801 SW 15th Ave, Miami, FL 33135)

Take a trip down Cuba’s history at the Cuban Memorial Boulevard. See all the monuments honoring Cuban soldiers who fought in the 1981 Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Cuban War of Independence.

Eat Cuban food

There’s a myriad of places to eat at Little Havana. One of the most well-known and probably the most touristy restaurants in the area is Versailles. It’s known to be a great eatery to try Cuban cuisines such as Cuban sandwiches, croquetas, and Lechon Asado.

La Esquina De La Fama is also a popular restaurant in Little Havana. They’re known for their amazing mojitos and overpriced menu – so beware! Many tour buses stop here for lunch, so their passengers can have a quick bite to eat and cool off with a cocktail.

Another great spot to try Cuban food is El Exquisito. Here you’ll find a great selection of Cuban sandwiches and entrees.

Learn how to make a hand-rolled cigar

Visit one of the cigar shops in Little Havana to learn how to roll a cigar. Here are three cigar factories you can visit:

Not a cigar smoker? No worries! (Me, neither.) You can still go and watch cigar aficionados make one for you. Miami-Cuban hand-rolled cigars make great souvenir gifts to your dad, grandpa or uncle.

Catch a movie at the Tower Theatre

Tower Theatre is one of Miami’s oldest historical landmarks as well as one of the city’s leading cultural institutions. Not only can you catch independent and foreign films here, but you can also experience cultural exhibitions and performances from time to time. View Tower Theatre’s showtimes here

Go dancing at Ball and Chain

Get ready to dance, drink, and listen to live Latin music at one of the most fun and energetic bars and lounges in Calle Ocho.  Ball and Chain is a must-see in Miami, plus there’s also an outdoor area with a giant pineapple-shaped stage. How cool is that?!

This place gets pretty packed at night, so be sure to book a table in advance.
